For those looking to achieve the highest degree of energy efficiency, there is no higher standard than Passive House Construction. While this specialized approach to home building was first pioneered in the U.S. during the energy crisis of the 1970’s, it was among Passive Home Builders in Germany that the five building-science principles behind Passive Construction were further refined, and where its rigorous energy efficiency qualifications were strictly formalized.

At a basic level, Passive Construction aims to optimize every aspect of the building’s energy efficiency by incorporating five specific building-science principles. In semi-technical terms, these include: super-insulated and thermal bridge free construction, envelope airtightness, optimized windows, balanced ventilation, and minimal use of space conditioning.

Our Experience

Despite the fact that Passive Construction has experienced a bit of an American renaissance in recent years, Certified Passive Builders remain few and far between in most U.S. Markets. The Valle Group was one of the earliest adopters of these standards and remains one of only a handful of Certified Passive Builders in the region. The firm’s first Passive House, completed in 2012, was one of only 24 Certified Passive Houses in the entire country at that time.

As custom home builders, our first priority is always to deliver a finished product that delights our clients, whether through Passive or Traditional construction. It’s also nice to be recognized by Industry peers for our commitment to high quality building and our efforts towards sustainable, energy-efficient construction. The Valle Group was honored to be awarded a PRISM award by the Home Builders & Remodelers Association of Greater Boston for our first Passive Home project in 2013 and again for another Passive Home in 2016. We were also awarded the Excellence in Green/Energy Design award by HBRACC and were honored to be the featured educational tour for members of the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association. (NESEA)
